Seasonal Allergy Remedies
Spring is a beautiful time of year here in the Pacific Northwest but it also brings seasonal allergies. About 25% of adults in the U.S. are diagnosed with seasonal allergies (according to data from 2021), that’s 1 out of 4!
There are many different ways to help alleviate seasonal allergy symptoms. Here are some of my favorite natural, low effort remedies to reduce seasonal suffering:
The first isn’t a supplement or an herb but an appliance. Using a HEPA air filter in your home has numerous benefits; and for allergy sufferers, it eliminates any allergens that follow you inside making your house a safe haven.
Eating local honey. The key to this remedy is to find a honey that is produced near where you live. Because honey contains small amounts of the pollen from the region it was made, ingesting local honey daily can help your system build up tolerance and lessen it’s reaction to pollen in the air.
Making honeysuckle and chrysanthemum tea. Equal parts of both plants in a tea (5 grams each is a good daily dose), drunk throughout the day helps to cool inflammation associated with allergy symptoms. It is mild and can be drunk daily throughout allergy season.
Adding Vitamin C or Quercetin (or both!) to your daily supplements. Both these supplements help reduce histamine, the chemical that causes most allergy symptoms.
Allergies are a complex immune response, it may take experimentation to find relief and to understand how best to support your body during the allergy season.
